My hobby is making autonomous boats. I'm currently in the process of
developing my third prototype. I'm using a small ARM based single
board computer to run it. It is, naturally, running Linux,
specifically Debian Lenny. There are now some interesting
alternatives, including the Arduino, which is certainly an attractive
and cheap option. The ARM board is exceptional in that it uses a very
low amount of power.

Anyhow, today my boat got onto the water. It doesn't have the ARM
computer installed yet; I'm still working through some issues, but I
expect that we will see a ARM/Linux powered autonomous boat on the
Waitemata Harbour in the not too distant future.
