Firstly, my apologies for double posting to NZLUG and AUCKLUG..
I'm leaving NZ to live in Germany with the (German) missus in two weeks
time.
Consequently, it means my role will be vacant so I am putting it out in
the LUG open for any potential candidates to contact me if interested.
The role is a senior one, managing enterprise infrastructure services in
a cloud environment within Gen-I as part of the Cloud Operations team.
I currently manage a few hundred Red Hat and SuSE servers, with a large
chunk of them being OS level only. If you know stuff within Gen-I, we
manage the GMP (note, I said manage, not use ;) ).
The team is great, I believe we are one of the better places in Gen-I to
be, and it's been a really hard decision for me to leave this position.
There is always training on the cards (I've gotten my RHCE and RH401
certs through here) and the flexibility within the role is amazing.
Onto the nitty-gritty..
Role requirements:
* Level 3 (in the ITIL model) systems engineer.
o Problem mgmt, capacity mgmt, project implementation, odd bit of
design, infrastructure mgmt, subject matter expert in Linux, performance
analysis and service line reporting.
o BRAMPS (Backups, Reporting, Antivirus, Monitoring, Patching,
Security) is a model we implement.
* Experience with RHEL and SLES would be good.
* Understanding of VMWare is helpful as the hosts generally run
atop this.
* On call/escalation component.
* Ability to work on your own and well within a team.
* Security focused.
* Leadership and mentoring.
The following are skills which would be utilized in this role:
* Radius/radiator
* Rsyslog
* Bind
* DRBD
* RSSH
* Postfix
* Mediawiki
* Red Hat Satellite
* Nagios
* Apache
* Likewise
* IBM x-series and blade experience.
* ITIL experience.
There are a LOT of Windows servers in this environment, you won't be
responsible for any, but an open mind to inter-OS-operation is mandatory
(Win-phobics won't do too well).
This is not a customer facing role in general, you may deal with the odd
one with escalations, but our customers are generally other areas of
Gen-I utilizing our infrastructure.
In short, I think this is a dream role for someone who enjoys an
enterprise corporate environment, we have a lot of fun at work, it's
very relaxed (no ties required ;) ) and there are always opportunities
for growth and up-skilling. I really love this job but must follow my
heart so away I go.
If you think you may be interested, contact me off-list. These types of
jobs are hens-teeth in NZ..
Thanks,
David
