flpsed replacement / annotating PS

Every so often I find flsed really useful, it allows to print text over
PostScript files, storing the strings in such a way in the PostScript
file that they can be edited again later. It's useful for filling in
forms, especially the ones that aren't set up for form-filling in the
first place (assuming one has a Linux program able to fill in PDF
forms). flpsed can convert pdf to ps automatically.

The downside is flpsed isn't maintained, and compiling the latest
version is a pain because it requires the a beta snapshot of some
never-released-as-final widget toolkit. It also has various operational
problems which can be worked around, but it's less than ideal.

Does anyone know of / uses any similar application? In particular the
ability to work with any postscript file is handy.

Thanks,

Volker

+1. i'd like to see that!

There are various toolkits out there that would do the job (for pdf at
any rate), but most need building on top of.

not sure, but have you tried pdfedit and OOo? also kword and abiword.

i've used those (not recently) to muck around with PDFs (with varying
levels of success). not sure about PSs.

I've used xournal for annotating PDFs. Not sure it's exactly what you
want but should be worth a look.

It's description gives the understanding that $EDITOR does the same job,
but it does load a PDF in the background (it will be unable to do any
PostScript).

I added some text and some more handdrawn stuff, but on saving it goes
belly-up:

GLib-ERROR **: gmem.c:239: failed to allocate 70368744177664 bytes
aborting...

and produces nothing. I don't think PCs these days have quite that much
memory. No updates for a little while either.

Bit of a shame - it shows potential, but I'm still looking for something
similar to flpsed...

Thanks for the suggestion,

Volker
