Is there any way I can find out exactly which server is delivering
content to my browser? I seem to be having all sorts of problems, even
when I disable my local squid server...

Cheers,

Not completely, but many proxies modify the http headers to identify
themselves. If you go somewhere that shows your sent browser headers such as
http://analyze.privacy.net/Default.asp or even a specialist proxy detecter
like http://browserspy.dk/proxy.php they may reveal something useful.

Another thing to consider is that you make have cached content in your
browser from before you disabled your squid server. Clearing caches there
may help.
