hi all,
If you're an active blogger or tweeter, you may have recently noticed a
number of people doing a challenge called "30 days of me" where they
write about their secrets and other emotional stuff and stick it online
for the whole world to read.
I thought it would be more interesting to do a '30 days of geek"
challenge instead, where you post one new article every day relating to
geekery as well as other tasks like releasing some open source software
or writing a patch.
Figured some of you might be interested in taking part and it would be
pretty cool to learn more about some of the people in the open source NZ
IT scene.
It's also a good excuse to get back into blogging if you've been wanting
to find something to sufficiently motivate you to do so.
Essentially the topics are:
* Day 01 â Why do you consider yourself a geek?
* Day 02 â Preferred programming language?
* Day 03 â What does your day job involve?
* Day 04 â Greatest application written to date.
* Day 05 â Quick nifty hacks youâre proud of
* Day 06 â Primary geek fuel (snacks/drinks)
* Day 07 â Preferred smartphone platform. And which do you use?
* Day 08 â Preferred method of communication with humans
* Day 09 â What OS/distribution do you run?
* Day 10 â Picture, screenshot and specifications of your primary computer.
* Day 11 â Favourite hacking environment â music, light, seating, etc
* Day 12 â What area do you want to expand your skills into?
* Day 13 â How did you become such a geek? Career? Personal interest?
* Day 14 â Favourite computer conference?
* Day 15 â Earliest geek experience
* Day 16 â First computer youâve ever owned & your favourite ever.
* Day 17 â Post a useful HOWTO to solve a challenge youâve come across recently.
* Day 18 â Most cringe-worthy geek moment
* Day 19 â Most hated computing environment.
* Day 20 â Where do you stand on Internet Censorship?
* Day 21 â Favourite thing & worst things about working in IT?
* Day 22 â Release some software under an open source license that you havenât released before.
* Day 23 â Post a review of an application that you use.
* Day 24 â How do you feel about Open Source vs Proprietary software?
* Day 25 â Microsoft â friend, foe or other?
* Day 26 â Apple â friend, foe or other?
* Day 27 â Fix a bug in some open source software and commit the patch
* Day 28 â How many computers lying about the house?
* Day 29 â Looking back (at geek life), would you have done anything differently?
* Day 30 â Where do you see technology advancing in the next 20 years â and where will you fit in?
Mine is up at http://www.jethrocarr.com/2010/10/17/30-days-of-geek/ and
people are adding links to their blogs onto my comments page.
Feel free to join on in. :-)
regards,
