Hi Everyone,

As I've probably mentioned, I'm involved with a school nowadays.
Actually, it's 7 schools and will eventually be 2,500 netbooks. I'm
not sure what the numbers are at the moment.

We've got a problem. None of the sound inputs work on the netbooks.
The inbuilt microphone doesn't work and neither does the combo-audio
plug. The netbook model in question is an Asus 1001px. There's 2
outstanding bug reports for Ubuntu on the issue. I've asked the
director of the project to lean on the vendor to get some support from
Asus. He also asked me to see if there was anyone in NZ who might be
able to help with this issue. I've haven't had much luck myself. There
seem to be 101 solutions out there, some of which work for some
people.

So is there anyone out there who might be able to help?

Regards,
Nevyn

Which bug numbers?

Which version of Ubuntu are you looking at using.
Guessing maybe 10.04 LTS?

Maybe... I'll contact you off-list.

Which bug numbers?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/689258
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/580183

Bearing in mind Launchpad is about to go offline for maintenance (so
the links probably won't work for a little while).

I was going to do a lot of work around this but am fighting fires at
the moment so my activity has fallen right off.

Definitely. Had a look at 10.10 and I can't say I'm terribly
impressed. Couldn't get the netbook-launcher and gnome to play nice.
Unity just had me looking at the screen in stunned horror. Figured I'd
only evaluate .04 releases from now on.

Let me know - it might be better to do this on the bug tracker and
I'll feed you information from the vendor when I get it (though I'm
not holding my breath on this point). Of course, with a 2,500 roll out
within the next 18 months.... read between the lines.
