Sorry if this is OT, call it quake stress.

In my temporary office (translate, garage in rented house that doesn't
ACTUALLY hold the whole family) I have a donated printer/scanner that the
win7 computer I want to use it with needs to be connected to the net to get
the drivers for (Does it via windows update or something (the OS is on
several DVD's - are they saying there wasn't room for the fecking
drivers?). The android 2.2 htc desire tethers to my ubuntu laptop
(otherwise you wouldn't get this email) but if I try to tether it to the
win7 box nothing happens except the phone charging.

All info on the net says win7 will do this tethering out of the box.

So why isn't it?

I guess I will connect the laptop to the win7 box by ethernet and share the
connection if I can't sort the win7 tethering.

G'night.

Hi Nick,

You'll have to download and install HTC Sync software from HTC's
website. Unplug the phone, install the sync software, plug the phone
in and choose the Tether (or Sync, if you don't have tether) option on
the phone. On the PC you should see a notification saying that a
remote NDIS device was installed.

Also, regarding your printer/scanner issue, Windows 7 only needs to be
connected to the net so it can search for and download the drivers -
also, there's no guarantee that the drivers will be found. It's better
to go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers from
there. Another thing to note is that sometimes there may not be any
Windows 7 specific driver listed, in which case a Windows Vista driver
should work fine.

An alternative is to get a DriverPack that can automatically scan and
install missing drivers for any device. Always handy to keep this
around when dealing with Windows machines.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Shiv
