Looks like Oracle are giving it to the Apache Foundation:

At this stage no news on either the OO.o or Oracle web sites.

Interesting.

The devil is going to be in the details, particularly licences.

I wonder if LibreOffice will be able to fold their enhancements into the
Apache version, and if they can if they will choose to do so?

not easily. gpl can't go into apache, as apache can be closed.

it doesn't look like it - an article on the register says they are
staunch on sticking to the gpl/lgpl/mpl

Funny what peoples first thoughts are. Mine was that the split to LibreOffice
may now prove to be a good one given that innitially i thought it ill advised
and underpowered / underfunded. The main thing i see in the immediate future
is the loss of Ex Sun developers on the project. They were paid devs; they
will either be swapped to other jobs within Oracle, or out of work. Some may
continue to develop for OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice while seeking other
employment but their input will continue to drop short term. Either way i
think the cream of developers is lost to the project.

IBM says it intends to keep contributing under the Apache model.

Heres what The Document Foundation has to say:
http://blog.documentfoundation.org/2011/06/01/statement-about-oracles-move-to-donate-openoffice-org-assets-to-the-apache-foundation/

Be interested to see how Mozilla Foundation funding is standing up under
onslaught of harsher economic times and Crome, Opera, Safari and Internet
Explorer 8/9 standards conformance. The reason i muse thus is because TDF is
set up to follow the Mozilla Foundation model.

Marketing fluff for Oracle who are hoping that OO.o won't die so fast
if it appears as an Apache project. IBM quote is just for the LOLZ.

There was a blog from one of the members of The Document Foundation
noting that Oracle could have folded the OO.o project back together with
LibreOffice under TDF organisation, but in typical Oracle style, they go
for the option that looks best for their marketing.

At the end of the day, LibreOffice has a lot more of the community
contributors that OO.o, and I don't see that changing with this move.
